I recently came across the thought of downsizing. My kids had all grown up, and my wife passed away a couple of years ago. I’ve always enjoyed living in a big house, but I couldn’t keep up with maintenance and recurring bills. Plus, I retired recently, so the isolation didn’t help either. For weeks, I thought about selling and moving to a small apartment. I brought newspapers and did some apartment hunting every morning until I came across independent living communities. I did some digging online and knew this was exactly what I needed. So, I called the folks at SLPS and explored several options in State College. They took care of all the negotiations and paperwork while I put up my home for sale. In less than a week, they helped me find and settle down into my new apartment.

My dad started developing dementia symptoms during the COVID lockdowns. Since I was working remotely, I was always around to help take care of him. But ever since I returned to the office, his condition worsened. He wasn’t taking his medicine on time. He zoned out during conversations and even left the stove on once. Living out of town, it was very difficult to find an assisted living center to help my dad after his recovery. We reached out to a few centers but it was hard to gather all the information on each place. I was getting frustrated making calls every day and getting nowhere. Then I got a recommendation from a social worker in the area to contact Senior Living Placement Specialists. They were great! They took all my dad’s details over the phone and even set up a virtual call to meet me. They were able to compile a list of three centers that best met my dad’s care needs. I was able to travel back and see two of the centers that we narrowed down to and we made a decision that weekend.
